The sciatic nerves are the largest and longest nerves of the body, reaching about the size of your thumb in diameter, and running down the back of each leg. When these nerves are irritated or affected by the inflammation of nearby soft tissues, doctors refer to this as sciatica. One of the most common causes of sciatic leg pain is the Vertebral Subluxation Complex. The lumbar spine, where the sciatic nerve begins, is the most frequently injured area of the spine. The chiropractic approach is to use carefully directed and controlled pressure to remove the interference from spinal structures.
Many of the pain-sensing nerves of the spine are in the facet joints, the two interlocking "fingers" at the back of each spinal bone. The normally smooth surfaces on which these joints glide, can become rough, irritated, and inflamed. Symptoms of mid back pain can range from muscle tightness and spasms, trigger points (areas of acute spasm and pain), restricted range of motion when bending or twisting, and sharp or stabbing pains from the back, radiating to the front. The lower back pain can be a herniated disc and many people go through surgical treatemtn. Dr. Corey specializes in the musculoskeletal system and its biomechanical-related functions. With specific chiropractic adjustments Dr. Corey can help restore a more normal motion and position of afected spinal bones.
Congratulaions on your pregnancy! This period of rapid development, hormonal changes, the laxity of connective ligaments, and shifting of weight-bearing structures, may cause many pregnant wmen to experience low back pain. Besides helping to relieve the discomfort many expectant mothers experience, chiropratic care helps normalize nervous system function. This is an important component of overall good health.
What age should you start taking your children to a Chiropractor? Chiropractic care can start immediately after birth however your child will benefit from chiropractic care at any age. Spinal dysfunction or nerve irritation at any age can cause pain and effect optimal health. Many spinal problems seen in adults start in childhood. Infants have to struggle to hold their head up, they take bumps and falls when first learning to explore. Children fall off bikes, monkey bars, and suffer back strain from over-loaded school back packs. Teens suffer emotional stress, hormonal changes, neck strain from playing with smart phones. Dr. Corey will modify his adjusting technique based on your child's size and condition. Children often require less adjustments than adults because their spines are more flexible and they respond quicker to chiropractic care.
